Fallow Year 2019

The Film Africa Travel Grants was a pilot scheme, delivered in partnership with the British Council, which ran during the first fallow year for Film Africa. The scheme offered 5 African filmmakers the opportunity to travel to the UK to attend 3 international film festivals where their work was invited to screen.

The selected grantees were: Nysasha Kadandara who attended Sheffield Doc Fest; Daniel Coker, Kofi Afriyie and Selorm Dogoe who attended Encounters Film Festival; and Michael Omonua who attended the BFI London Film Festival.

The purpose of this pilot was to enable African filmmakers to present their work in the UK, develop new contact networks and reach new audiences whilst increasing the exposure of contemporary African film in the UK.

The grants scheme was due to continue into the first half of 2020, but was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. To learn more about the selected filmmakers’ experiences at the three different festivals, you may visit our blog.
