Film Africa Baobab Award Partnership with Leeds International Film Festival
We are delighted to be partnering for the first time with Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) to host two shorts programmes of the 10 titles vying for this year’s Baobab Award for Best Short Film.
The 34th Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) is taking place on Leeds Film Player from 3 – 19 November 2020. This year’s nominees will be available for viewing online from Tuesday 3 November on the Leeds Film Player leedsfilm.com. There are two 90 minute online screenings featuring the nominated shorts.
Our physical screening of the nominated shorts has been rescheduled at the Rich Mix cinema to Tuesday 3 November at 8.00PM due to the national lockdown. BOOK NOW
We will announce the winner of the Baobab Award live on the Film Africa Facebook page on Sunday 8 November at 2PM (GMT). Register now for the opportunity to watch the winning short film and hear from the Director live in conversation with Baobab Award Jury Member and Director of Kenya’s Slum Film Festival Gakuru Gachoki.

The winner of this year’s Baobab Award will join Gakuru Gachoki, Director of Kenya’s Slum Film Festival and one of this year’s judges, for a live online Q&A following a watch party of the winning film.
Film Africa 2020 Baobab Award for Short Best Short Film
The Baobab Award for Best Short Film exists to recognise and support African filmmaking and to enhance the visibility of emerging new voices. The Award consists of a £1,000 cash prize awarded by a jury of filmmakers and industry professionals.
The Baobab Award is long listed in partnership with the National Film & Television School’s MA in Film Studies, Programming & Curation, with the objective of encouraging an appreciation and knowledge of African cinema in the next generation of film programmers.
