Dir. Chloé Aïcha Boro
Burkina Faso, France. 2019. 65 mins.
Mooré, Dioula with English subtitles.
This documentary film, set in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, puts a stark spotlight on the dire working conditions of the labourers in a granite quarry. Typically on the margins of a society that refuses to see them, the film centers them, for once, as they revolt against the slaveholder-like terms of their employment. Le Loup D’or de Balolé is a moving, visually stunning rendition of the Baloé quarry and its polemical characters.
