Dine & View returns with Finding Sally in partnership with Eat Ethio

Our much-loved foodie strand, Dine & View, returns with a twist. We encourage you to make and share your own dishes from Ethiopia – the country of origin of documentary Finding Sally – while you’re watching the film online on the BFI Player with friends and family.

We have teamed up with Eat Ethio to bring you a special recipe from Ethiopia.

Eat Ethio, was created by food and culture curator Helina Tesega, and celebrates the ingredients, artisans and culture of Ethiopia. One of OkayAfrica’s 100 Women, Helina has created a movement that provides a modern insight into the food, coffee, music, designs, and culture of Ethiopia. It was Tesega’s own yearning for her country’s food that inspired her to create Eat Ethio supper clubs and events.

“Like everyone living away from home, I missed my food, so I decided to cook for myself, adapting recipes to work around the ingredients I could find. I experimented and borrowed ideas from other cuisines. What I came up with worked. I shared my food with friends and that’s how the idea for Eat Ethio happened. My aim was to pass on my love for the Ethiopian food and the culture that I grew up with, delivering it in the way I felt it should be represented.”

Helina truly believes that through food, you can get a true taste for a country. “Ethiopia has a lot to offer, I just want to make sure I do it justice, the food is just the beginning.”

Helina and Film Africa will post her recipe and instruction video on Eat Ethio and Film Africa’s social channels on 30 October. Follow Helina’s recipe or make your own recipe, sharing your meals and pics on social, tagging #FilmAfrica20.
